- Leaders Hold Trilateral Summit in Makkah to Strengthen Collective Security and Regional Stability
MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan have signed the landmark Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, reaffirming their commitment to collective security, enhanced defence cooperation and regional stability during a high-level trilateral summit held at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.
The summit took place on 7 August 2026 (24 Safar 1448H) at the gracious invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. It brought together President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who were received by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Leaders Review Strategic Relations
During the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence, the three leaders reviewed the longstanding and distinguished relations among Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, while discussing a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The summit underscored the deep historical ties among the three nations, founded on enduring bonds of Islamic brotherhood, mutual respect and shared strategic interests. The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding long-standing defence and security cooperation.
Historic Makkah Joint Defence Agreement Signed
Building on their shared vision for regional peace and security, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, marking a significant milestone in trilateral defence cooperation.
The agreement reflects the three countries’ determination to strengthen their collective security architecture while promoting peace, stability and prosperity across the region and beyond.
Collective Defence Commitment
A key provision of the agreement establishes a framework for collective deterrence, stipulating that an armed attack against any one of the three member states shall be considered an attack against all three.
The agreement also provides for the expansion of defence collaboration across multiple areas, including strategic coordination, military cooperation and other security-related initiatives aimed at enhancing the collective defence capabilities of the three nations.
