WASHINGTON – Morocco continues to stand out as one of the United States’ most reliable allies and trusted partners in North Africa and the Middle East, underlined U.S. Congressman Mike Lawler, who called for strengthening the exceptional alliance that has linked the two nations since 1777.
“Morocco has been a consistent and trusted partner, and deepening this alliance is crucial as we face threats not only in the Middle East but also across North Africa,” Lawler emphasized in an article published by the Daily News under the headline “Alliances Abroad Keep US Safe at Home.”
Lawler, who chairs the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee within the House Foreign Affairs Committee, praised Morocco’s pivotal role in regional stability and security, particularly through its robust cooperation with the United States and its leadership in African security initiatives.
The Congressman recalled his recent August visit to Morocco, where he led a bipartisan congressional delegation. The visit reaffirmed Washington’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, while also exploring new avenues for enhanced cooperation in defense, trade, and diplomacy. Meetings with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, further highlighted the shared vision for advancing peace, prosperity, and partnership.
Lawler described the U.S.–Morocco relationship as an enduring friendship that has stood the test of time, from Morocco’s historic recognition of American independence in the 18th century to its current role as a leader in counterterrorism, regional diplomacy, and economic development.
“Morocco’s leadership in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation makes it an indispensable partner to the United States. Strengthening this alliance ensures greater security not only for our regions but also for the global community,” Lawler stressed.
The reaffirmation of Morocco’s importance as a strategic partner of the United States underscores the depth of bilateral ties and their growing significance in addressing global challenges.
