Trump Signals Military Option Against Iran if Talks Collapse

US President Donald Trump

Islamabad – US President Donald Trump said he is prepared to consider a commando-style military operation against Iran if negotiations between Washington and Tehran fail “on their merits,” according to remarks given to The Financial Times.

“It means one of two things,” Trump said. “Number one, it would mean that possibly we would go in and take care of the rest of the place that we didn’t take care of militarily. Or it would just mean that we would keep the blockade on Iran, because the blockade has been probably more powerful than any attack that was ever made on that country.”

Sanctions and Blockade Framed as Key Leverage

Trump emphasized that economic pressure remains a central component of US strategy toward Iran, describing the existing blockade as a highly effective tool. He suggested that maintaining or intensifying sanctions could serve as an alternative to direct military action if diplomacy fails.

Escalation Between Israel and Iran ‘Won’t Affect’ Talks

Despite renewed tensions between Israel and Iran, Trump said he does not expect the escalation to derail ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

“It’s not going to have any impact on the deal,” he said. “I think the deal is going on. We’ll see what happens.”

His comments indicate that the administration views diplomatic engagement and regional security developments as parallel tracks, with negotiations continuing regardless of the broader geopolitical climate.
