WASHINGTON: The US State Department has approved a potential $2.68 billion Foreign Military Sale to Ukraine covering air defence development upgrades, related equipment and associated services.
In a notification to Congress, the State Department said it had made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Ukraine.
European Contributions and US Financing
According to the State Department, if finalized, the proposed procurement would be financed through a combination of European contributions and US Foreign Military Financing appropriated during the previous administration.
The department said the proposed arrangement would support Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen and develop its air defence capabilities.
Sale Subject to Congressional Review
The approval represents authorization for a potential sale rather than a finalized agreement. The proposed Foreign Military Sale remains subject to congressional review before proceeding.
The announcement comes as Ukraine continues to seek additional air defence capabilities amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks targeting infrastructure and other sites across the country.
