- RDIF Chief Kirill Dmitriev points to fuel shortages in France as evidence of mounting energy pressures across the EU
MOSCOW: Europe is facing what Russian officials describe as the worst energy crisis in its history, according to Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the Russian President for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and Chief Executive Officer of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
Commenting on developments in Europe’s energy market, Dmitriev wrote on X that Europe was “finally” beginning to recognize the scale of the energy challenges confronting the continent.
Fuel Supply Disruptions in France
In a separate post, Dmitriev said energy restrictions in European Union countries were “finally arriving,” linking his comments to reports of disruptions in fuel supplies in France.
According to the reports cited by Dmitriev, as of September 19, shortages of either gasoline or diesel were being reported at around 11 percent of fuel stations across France.
Growing Pressure on European Energy Supplies
The remarks come amid continued concerns over energy security, fuel availability and supply disruptions in parts of Europe.
Dmitriev used the reported shortages in France to underscore what he described as the broader consequences of restrictions affecting Europe’s energy sector.
His comments reflect the Russian government’s position on the impact of European energy policies and restrictions, while the extent and causes of the reported shortages remain subject to developments in individual markets.
