- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Says Washington Is Entering “Endgame” as Trump Administration Escalates Economic Pressure on Tehran
WASHINGTON: The United States administration is preparing to launch a major new financial offensive against Iran on Monday, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, signaling a significant escalation in Washington’s economic pressure campaign against Tehran.
“We are now entering the endgame,” Bessent said in a post on X on Sunday evening, describing the forthcoming measures as an unprecedented financial campaign against an adversary.
The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump declared the beginning of an economic campaign aimed at isolating Iran on an unprecedented scale.
Trump also warned that countries whose financial institutions, businesses, airports or government entities provide support to Tehran could face severe economic consequences from Washington.
The planned measures are expected to further intensify pressure on Iran’s financial system and international economic links, as the Trump administration seeks to restrict Tehran’s access to global markets and isolate the Iranian economy.
