The attack, carried out at the Crocus hall in Krasnogorsk, on the outskirts of Moscow, was initially attributed to a cell of the Islamic State (IS) group.

According to the latest data from the Investigative Committee, 133 people lost their lives in the event, but the editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya media group and the RT channel, Margarita Simonyan, reported that the number of victims had already increased to 143.

national day of mourning

RIA Novosti also reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin declared March 24 as a day of national mourning

In turn, the head of state of the Russian Federation on Saturday called for revenge against those responsible for the terrorist attack.

“All the authors, organizers and those who commissioned this crime will receive deserved and irremediable punishment, whoever they are and regardless of whether they were sent,” Putin said during a message to the nation broadcast on Russian television.

In the speech, which lasted five minutes, Putin highlighted that eleven people have already been arrested in connection with the terrorist attack, the largest that Russia has suffered since the Beslan massacre, twenty years ago.

But, in addition to arresting the four terrorists and their seven accomplices, all of them foreigners, Russia continues to investigate the tragedy to find those who helped them with transportation, their escape route and provided them with a hiding place for their weapons and ammunition.
