Our strategic task is to make Kazakhstan Eurasia’s transport and logistics center – President

Addressing the members of the newly-formed Cabinet, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev raised the issue of renewing the country’s fleet of railroad cars and creating the country’s own container fleet, Kazinform News Agency reports.

He pointed out the need to enhance the country’s transport and logistics potential.

Our strategic task is to make Kazakhstan a full-fledged transport and logistics center and transit hub of Eurasia. For this purpose, the Ministry of Transport was established, which should develop operational and efficient solutions on a wide range of problems, the President stressed.

In his words, in the first half of 2024, the Ministry should adopt a program document to tackle key issues in railway sector. One of the most pressing issues is renovation of railroad cars and establishment of the country’s own container fleet.

All the projects on expansion of the country’s backbone railroad line (1,300 kilometers) must be implemented by 2028, he said.

Another issue raised at the meeting was the reconstruction of Astana-Balkhash-Almaty highway launched in 2017.

Other highways – Atyrau-Astrakhan, Aktobe-Kandyagash, Taldykorgan-Ust-Kamenogorsk – have been repaired for more than five years. The President tasked to complete their modernization in 2024, emphasizing the need to attract local companies to these works.
