- Iranian Revolutionary Guard says missiles targeted US warships equipped with Aegis defense systems and cruise missiles
TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that its aerospace forces carried out successful ballistic missile strikes against two United States Navy destroyers, alleging that the attacks caused significant damage to the vessels.
In a statement cited by Iranian state media, the IRGC said its aerospace forces targeted the USS Ralph Johnson (DDG-114) and USS Barry (DDG-52) as part of a military operation. The vessels were described as being equipped with Aegis air-defense systems and cruise missiles.
The IRGC claimed that the missile strikes inflicted substantial damage on the two warships but did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the assertion.
The reported strikes come amid heightened military tensions between Iran and the United States, with developments involving naval forces in the region continuing to draw international attention.
