  • Yalda Night Celebrations and Photographic Journey to Shiraz Foster Cultural Diplomacy and Academic Collaboration

Islamabad – With the gracious support of the Iranian Culture House in Rawalpindi, a vibrant cultural celebration unfolded at the National College of Arts (NCA) Rawalpindi campus. The event, featuring a dedicated photo exhibition and a traditional Yalda Night display, offered a captivating window into Iran’s rich civilization and artistic heritage, strengthening the deep historical bonds between Iran and Pakistan.

The exhibition showcased over forty stunning photographs depicting the historical sites, majestic gardens, ancient tombs, and tourist attractions of Shiraz—a city revered as the heart of Persian poetry. These images vividly narrated tales of Iran’s ancient history, aesthetic refinement, and architectural grandeur, allowing visitors to connect intimately with the nation’s cultural spirit.

Complementing the visual journey was an authentic Yalda Night table, adorned with symbolic Iranian handicrafts, traditional fruits, and dried fruits. This display brought to life one of Iran’s most cherished annual traditions, celebrating the winter solstice as a triumph of light over darkness and hope over despair.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Mehdi Taheri eloquently highlighted the pivotal role of Shiraz as the home of legendary poets like Hafez and Saadi in shaping Persian literature and Iranian identity. He elaborated on the profound cultural significance of Yalda Night, describing it as a timeless occasion for family unity, reverence for elders, and immersion in literary heritage.

Looking toward future collaboration, Dr. Taheri engaged with Mr. Yaser Hanif, Dean of the NCA Rawalpindi Campus, proposing a series of joint cultural and artistic exhibitions. He emphasized the need to strengthen educational ties between fine arts institutions in Iran and Pakistan, advocating for a formal Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and creative talent.

Attended by NCA professors, students, and local enthusiasts of art and culture, the event stood as a testament to the power of cultural diplomacy. It marked a significant step in deepening the historical, cultural, and civilizational relationship between Iran and Pakistan, paving the way for enriched mutual understanding and continued artistic partnership.
