Dushanbe: Salomuddin Yusufi, First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan, commended the Avicenna Tajik State Medical University (ATSMU) for its pivotal role in enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Tajikistan in the fields of medical science and education.
During a meeting with a delegation of Pakistani journalists led by Dr. Muhammad Abbas Mahar, CEO of MBBS Abroad Consultancy—the exclusive international admissions partner for ATSMU—Deputy Minister Yusufi emphasized the foundational role of medical education in fostering closer ties. “Medical sciences and education are a cornerstone for bringing our nations closer, with youth acting as key agents in integrating our institutions,” he stated.
He outlined a shared governmental vision to expand collaboration through medical tourism and scientific exchange, citing a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on student and faculty exchange programs designed to deepen institutional cooperation. The Deputy Minister also highlighted the critical role of media in promoting awareness of these opportunities.
With its universities adhering to international standards and offering modern facilities, Tajikistan is establishing itself as a regional hub for medical education, attracting students from neighboring countries. Deputy Minister Yusufi further noted the country’s growing capacity in advanced medical tourism, including specialized surgical care and therapeutic treatments, supported by a network of approximately 45 health resorts and sanatoriums offering wellness programs.
Dr. Muhammad Abbas Mahar reported that ATSMU currently hosts 450 Pakistani medical students, a significant contribution to educational exchange. He added that the Tajik government’s recent policy allowing two annual academic intakes for medical programs will enable students to complete their studies more efficiently.
The engagement reflects a mutual commitment at the highest levels of both governments to strengthen people-to-people connections, which are viewed as essential for sustainable and enduring bilateral relations. The visit is seen as a milestone in advancing mutual understanding and collaborative prospects in health and education.
