- US president rejects Axios report, saying Washington made no offer to Tehran in connection with nuclear negotiations
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has denied a report by Axios claiming that his administration was prepared to ease sanctions on Iran and facilitate access to frozen Iranian assets in exchange for Tehran meeting US demands concerning its nuclear programme.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social account, Trump rejected the report and said the United States had made no such offer to Iran.
“Axios just released a story that ‘Trump’ offered Sanctions Relief and Frozen Funds to Iran. This is untrue. I offered them nothing!” Trump wrote.
He also accused the publication of spreading what he described as a false report and called on Axios to withdraw the story.
The report had alleged that Washington was considering sanctions relief and the release of frozen Iranian funds as part of possible negotiations over Iran’s nuclear activities.
Trump’s statement directly contradicts those claims, underscoring continuing uncertainty over the US administration’s position on potential diplomatic engagement with Tehran and the future of sanctions against Iran.
