- Timothy Kane’s Visit Highlights Growing Pakistan-Australia Cooperation in Education, Skills, Business and Trade
FAISALABAD: The visit of Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Timothy Kane to the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITHM) Faisalabad has marked an important milestone in a 15-year journey of educational cooperation and institutional friendship between Pakistan and Australia.
For ITHM leadership, the visit carried particular significance, reflecting a relationship that dates back to 2011, when the institution began working to introduce Australian TAFE-based education and training opportunities in Pakistan.
ITHM has positioned itself among the pioneers in Pakistan in promoting Australian TAFE education, creating international academic and professional pathways for young Pakistanis.
What began as an educational collaboration has evolved over the years into a broader relationship encompassing skills development, industry linkages, business, trade and people-to-people engagement.
The partnership has also contributed to strengthening connections between Pakistani institutions and Australia’s vocational education and training ecosystem. The evolving relationship was highlighted during the High Commissioner’s visit, with ITHM emphasizing the potential for further cooperation beyond education and training.
As CEO of ITHM and Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the institution’s leadership expressed confidence that the partnership can contribute to stronger Pakistan-Australia engagement in vocational skills, entrepreneurship, investment, business and trade.
Appreciation for Australian Support
ITHM also acknowledged the continued support of Austrade and the Australian High Commission in Pakistan, with particular appreciation expressed for Mr. Azhar Shah for his longstanding encouragement, cooperation and friendship.
The institution described the sustained engagement as an example of how educational partnerships can develop into broader relationships based on mutual confidence and shared objectives.

Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, ITHM leadership noted that institutions may establish partnerships, but people, trust and a shared sense of purpose are what enable such relationships to endure.
