ISLAMABAD – Ambassador of Cuba to Pakistan Damián Cordero Torres met with Cuban nationals and families residing in Islamabad and its surrounding areas, providing an opportunity to strengthen community ties and reaffirm solidarity with their homeland.
The gathering carried special emotional significance as it brought together several Cuban mothers, their children and their Pakistani husbands, many of whom had graduated as medical doctors from Cuban institutions.
Ambassador Briefs Families on Cuba’s Economic Challenges
During the meeting, Ambassador Cordero Torres briefed the participants on the difficult economic and social situation in Cuba, which the Cuban government attributes in part to the tightening of the United States’ longstanding economic blockade.
He also outlined the transformations recently approved in Cuba to address the country’s social and economic challenges and strengthen its capacity to overcome prevailing difficulties.
The discussion provided an opportunity for Cuban families living in Pakistan to remain informed about developments in their homeland and the measures being pursued by the Cuban government.
Immigration Policy and Family Reunification Discussed
The ambassador also briefed participants on Cuba’s immigration policy, highlighting its central objective of maintaining connections among Cubans living at home and abroad.
The meeting underscored the importance of preserving family bonds, fostering engagement with Cuban nationals overseas and ensuring that members of the Cuban community remain connected to their national identity and heritage.

Participants emphasised the importance of maintaining unity among Cubans at a challenging time for their country. They highlighted the role of solidarity and continued engagement by citizens living abroad in supporting the nation and its people.
