The statement came after discussions surrounding the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s highest state distinction. Ukraine noted that the award represents far more than a formal honor — it symbolizes the highest level of trust from the Polish state and reflects a special bond with the Polish nation.

Order of the White Eagle Represents Shared Values and Respect

The Ukrainian leadership stressed that such a prestigious symbol carries a responsibility to uphold the principles and values that form the foundation of the Polish state and its society.

Ukraine acknowledged that historical figures such as Catherine the Great, Benito Mussolini, and Gerhard Schroeder have previously been associated with the distinction, adding that it respects Poland’s decisions regarding the award.

At the same time, Ukraine emphasized that its focus remains on the strong partnership between the two nations and the shared struggle to protect independence and security in the region.

Ukraine Thanks Poland for Continued Support

Ukraine expressed gratitude to Poland for its unwavering assistance and cooperation, describing Polish support as a significant factor in the broader fight for freedom and sovereignty.

“Ukraine never forgets solidarity,” the statement said, highlighting that cooperation among countries and peoples in the region serves as an important guarantee of security — not only for Ukraine but also for neighboring states.

Commitment to Peace and European Security

Ukraine reaffirmed its determination to continue defending itself against Russia’s war and expressed confidence that a just and lasting peace will eventually be achieved.

Kyiv also thanked all nations, leaders, and communities that continue to stand with Ukraine, saying their support will contribute to building a stronger post-war security framework in Europe.

Addressing Historical Issues Through Dialogue

Ukraine said it remains open to meaningful cooperation with Poland to address difficult and painful chapters of shared history.

The Ukrainian leadership emphasized the importance of ensuring respect for all innocent victims of the 20th century and preventing historical disagreements from weakening relations between the two nations.

Tribute to Ukrainian People and Armed Forces

The statement praised the courage of Ukrainian citizens and soldiers who have defended the country against Russian aggression.

Ukraine said it believed the Order of the White Eagle was intended as a recognition of the Ukrainian people and armed forces when it was discussed in 2023, and noted that the matter had now been formally addressed with the Polish president.

“History will confirm the respect for Ukrainians,” the statement concluded.

Ukraine reaffirmed its commitment to protecting freedom, defending Europe’s future, and strengthening partnerships with allies.

Glory to Ukraine.
