WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has described Iran’s signing of a memorandum of understanding with Washington as a form of “unconditional surrender,” according to a report by Axios.

In an exclusive interview, Trump said the agreement “probably is unconditional surrender,” responding to a question about his earlier demand that Tehran accept an “unconditional surrender” to end the confrontation.

Trump claimed that the United States had achieved a decisive military victory, saying the conflict demonstrated America’s military capabilities.

Trump Highlights US Military Operations

“We defeated them totally militarily,” Trump said, adding that the United States had carried out a naval blockade that prevented ships from reaching Iran.

He claimed the operation showed the scale of US military power, stating that attempts to challenge the blockade were unsuccessful.

Asked whether the conflict had revealed limits to Washington’s ability to use force, Trump responded that he believed “there are no limits.”

Ceasefire Framework Opens Path for Negotiations

The United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28. On June 14, US, Iranian and Pakistani officials confirmed that Washington and Tehran had reached an agreement aimed at ending the regional conflict, with Pakistan playing a mediating role.

Under the reported framework, the two sides agreed to a 60-day period of negotiations covering key issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, maritime restrictions, and regional security arrangements.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the agreement included discussions on Tehran’s nuclear activities, an end to the US maritime blockade, and an immediate and permanent halt to military operations across all fronts, including Lebanon.

Trump later confirmed on June 17 that the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran had been signed, marking a significant development in efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
