- Tehran says evidence indicates strike on Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea was deliberate, while insisting Ukraine remains accountable
MOSCOW: Iran has reportedly abandoned plans to target three facilities in Ukraine in response to the alleged strike on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea after Kyiv issued an official apology, according to Mohsen Rezaee, military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Speaking to Press TV, Rezaee said the planned retaliatory measures were suspended following Ukraine’s apology. However, he stressed that Ukraine must still be held accountable for the incident, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency.
The reported decision comes amid heightened tensions over the attack on the Iranian vessel, which Tehran maintains was intentionally carried out.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran possesses evidence indicating that the strike by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Iranian vessel was deliberate, rejecting Kyiv’s assertion that the attack was unintentional.
Baghaei reiterated that Iran considers the incident a serious violation and emphasized that the evidence collected by Tehran contradicts Ukraine’s assurances regarding the circumstances of the strike.
The developments underscore growing diplomatic friction between Tehran and Kyiv, as Iran continues to demand accountability while signaling that it has, for now, refrained from military retaliation following Ukraine’s apology.
