- Global Campaign Uses the Power of Football to Promote Mental Wellbeing, Inclusion and Youth Empowerment in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Football Federation, in collaboration with the United Nations in Pakistan and the UN Youth Office, officially launched the global #Football4MentalHealth initiative in Islamabad, marking a significant step toward promoting mental wellbeing, social inclusion, and youth empowerment through sports.
The launch ceremony brought together senior officials, youth representatives, football stakeholders, and members of the diplomatic and development community as Pakistan became one of the first countries to join the growing international movement.
The initiative highlights the increasing role of sports, particularly football, as a powerful platform for raising awareness about mental health challenges, encouraging positive social engagement, and strengthening youth participation in communities.
UN and PFF Leaders Highlight Importance of Sports for Mental Wellbeing
The event was attended by PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Mohamed Yahya, and UN Youth Office representative Paul Lier Felipe.
Speakers at the ceremony emphasized the transformative power of football in bringing communities together, supporting emotional wellbeing, and creating opportunities for young people to thrive in healthy and inclusive environments.
Officials noted that mental health remains an important global challenge, particularly among youth, and initiatives such as #Football4MentalHealth can help reduce stigma while encouraging dialogue, resilience, teamwork, and social connection.

The campaign reflects the United Nations’ broader commitment to using sports as a catalyst for sustainable development, peacebuilding, and social cohesion.
