Dakar Backs Rabat: Senegal Reiterates Firm Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity

Republic of Senegal Reiterates Firm & Steadfast Support for Morocco's Sovereignty over the Sahara

Rabat – In a significant diplomatic reaffirmation, the Republic of Senegal has reiterated its firm and steadfast support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco over its entire national territory, including the Moroccan Sahara.

This principled position was formally articulated in a Joint Communiqué issued on Monday in Rabat, marking the conclusion of the Morocco-Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission. The high-level session was co-chaired by the Head of the Moroccan Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, and the Senegalese Prime Minister, Mr. Ousmane Sonko.

During the proceedings, the Senegalese delegation explicitly renewed its full support for the Moroccan Autonomy Plan, developed within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty. Senegal endorsed the initiative as the sole credible, serious, and realistic solution for definitively resolving this regional dispute. It emphasized that the process should continue within the exclusive auspices of the United Nations.

Furthermore, the Senegalese side welcomed and commended the historic adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025. The resolution represents a pivotal development, as it consolidates the Moroccan Autonomy Plan—within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty—as the only serious, credible, and lasting foundation for achieving a mutually acceptable political solution to this long-standing issue.

This strong endorsement from Senegal underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two nations and bolsters Morocco’s diplomatic momentum regarding its Southern Provinces, following the landmark UNSC decision.
