Morocco, Albania Reaffirm Commitment to Further Strengthen Excellent Bilateral Relations

Rabat – The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Albania reaffirmed, on Saturday in Rabat, their commitment to further strengthen their excellent bilateral relations in various areas. In a joint statement signed at the end of talks between Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, and Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Igli Hasani, who is on a working visit to Morocco from March 1 to 4, both parties underlined the outstanding bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen them, particularly in economic, commercial and cultural fields.

The two ministers also pledged to deepen ties by launching initiatives aimed particularly at bringing the two countries’ business milieus closer. To boost tourism and exchanges between populations, and enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, Morocco has also decided to waive the visa formalities for Albanian citizens traveling for short stays. The two ministers undertook to continue their consultations and coordination within international organizations and bodies.

Albania also recognized the importance of the Sahara issue for Morocco, as well as the serious and credible efforts made by the Kingdom within the framework of the United Nations to reach a mutually acceptable solution, we read in this Joint Declaration.  The two ministers also reaffirmed their support for the political process led by the United Nations and the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, in order to reach a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution to the conflict, in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council, in particular Resolution 2756 (2024), according to the Joint Declaration.

The latest UN resolution, 2756 adopted on October 31, 2024, also confirmed the relevance and credibility of the Autonomy Plan, while reaffirming the need for a political, pragmatic and lasting solution, within the framework of the UN process and the format of the round tables. With these new declarations of support, Morocco further consolidates its position and its diplomatic approach in favor of a definitive resolution of the Sahara issue.
