Zelensky warns that Russia is accumulating more troops for its offensive in Ukraine

Russia is accumulating more troops to continue its offensive, and is taking advantage of Ukraine’s deficit in artillery, air defense and long-range weapons caused by delays in aid to kyiv from some of its Western allies.

This was warned by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in his speech to the nation last night.

“The situation is extremely difficult in several parts of the front, where Russian troops accumulate maximum reserves,” said the president after visiting the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade this Monday in the Kupiansk area (northeast), where he was informed of the most urgent needs. pressing of the Ukrainian troops there.

The Ukrainian head of state added that Russia “is taking advantage of delays in aid to Ukraine,” which is causing “very tangible problems.”

According to Zelensky, “there is a deficit in artillery. Air defenses for the front and longer-range weapons are needed” and he assured that his administration is working with its allies to “resume and increase” its assistance to Ukraine.

National production is not enough

“Obviously, we cannot yet cover all our needs by ourselves, but every month Ukraine’s capabilities are strengthened,” Zelensky said of Ukrainian efforts to redouble its domestic arms production and become less dependent on foreign assistance.

Ukraine suffers from a pronounced deficit in ammunition and artillery that is affecting its ability to defend itself on the front, where Russia attacks in several areas at once.

The blockage in the US Congress of the $60 billion proposed by the White House to help Ukraine throughout 2024, and the delays in the European plan to send one million 155 mm caliber artillery shells to Kiev are some of the factors that explain the Ukrainian deficit in weapons and ammunition.

Ukraine denounces execution of wounded soldiers in Avdivka

The critical situation of the Ukrainian Army was revealed this weekend, when troops were forced to withdraw from the town of Avdiivka, after months of Russian siege.

A siege in which, as kyiv denounced this Tuesday, Russia has executed six seriously wounded soldiers, who were impossible to evacuate from the captured city.

The Ukrainian government has accused the Russians of breaking an agreement reached during the withdrawal to guarantee their humane treatment.

Relatives identified three Ukrainian soldiers in the video released by Russian sources shortly after the capture of the “Zenith” fortified position, in the southeast of the city, the 110th Brigade of the Ukrainian Army reported through its social networks.

In addition, the Brigade identified two other soldiers, while the identity of the sixth remains unknown, according to the statement issued late Monday.

The seriously wounded and unarmed soldiers could not be evacuated due to “incessant enemy aviation bombing and artillery strikes, as well as constant FPV drone attacks on evacuation vehicles and bombing of evacuation routes,” the brigade stressed.
