Islamabad, October 16 — The Embassy of Ukraine in Pakistan, in collaboration with the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture, inaugurated the Ukrainian Bookshelf Project at the National Library of Pakistan today. The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Honourable Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Mr. Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, and the Director General of the National Library, Mr. Ali Shahzad Muzaffar.

The Ukrainian Bookshelf is part of a global cultural diplomacy initiative launched by the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska. With Pakistan now joining the list, Ukrainian Bookshelves have been established in 59 countries worldwide, aiming to promote Ukrainian literature, heritage, and dialogue across borders.
Speaking at the event, the Ukrainian representative expressed deep gratitude to the Government of Pakistan and the National Library for their support in making the project a reality.
“This bookshelf is more than just a collection of books,” they said. “It is a symbol of our resilience, creativity, and the hope for a bright future that culture brings us all.”
The bookshelf features several dozen Ukrainian books, offering a glimpse into the country’s rich literary tradition. Among them is the notable publication “Women in Diplomacy: A Time of War,” highlighting the courageous efforts of Ukrainian women diplomats. The speaker also acknowledged the contribution of their spouse, Tetiana, a co-author of the book who previously served in Thailand and Pakistan, and who later shared personal insights with the audience.
The inauguration comes at a meaningful time, as Ukraine and Pakistan mark over 30 years of diplomatic relations. Emphasizing the importance of cultural diplomacy, the Ukrainian envoy noted that education, freedom, independence, and human dignity are shared values between the two nations.
“Though geographically distant, Ukraine and Pakistan are united in their respect for knowledge and the defense of human values,” they added.
Concluding the ceremony, the Ukrainian delegation expressed hope that the Ukrainian Bookshelf would serve as a platform for cultural connection and mutual understanding between the people of Ukraine and Pakistan.
As the proverb goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” With this initiative, Ukraine and Pakistan take a meaningful step toward deeper cultural ties.
