- Abu Dhabi Condemns Actions at Al-Aqsa Mosque and Calls for Respect of Historical Status Quo
ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers under police protection, as well as the raising of the Israeli flag within the mosque compound, describing the actions as provocative and incompatible with efforts to promote stability and mutual respect in the region.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) underscored the importance of preserving the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and safeguarding the sanctity of all religious sites.
UAE Voices Strong Support for Jordan’s Custodial Role
The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s recognition of the custodial role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in overseeing the Islamic endowments and managing the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The UAE expressed its full solidarity with Jordan and support for all measures undertaken to protect and preserve religious and cultural heritage sites, emphasizing the importance of maintaining access to places of worship and respecting their spiritual significance.
Commitment to Regional Stability and De-escalation
The Ministry called on Israeli authorities to prevent actions that could fuel tensions and undermine regional security, stressing the need for restraint and responsible conduct from all parties.
The UAE reiterated its principled rejection of practices that contravene international law, international legitimacy resolutions, and existing agreements, warning that such actions risk further escalation and instability.
UAE Advocates Comprehensive Peace and Two-State Solution
Reflecting its longstanding commitment to diplomacy and peaceful coexistence, the UAE urged the international community to intensify efforts aimed at creating a credible political horizon for peace.
The Ministry emphasized that a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the conflict can only be achieved through a negotiated two-state solution, consistent with international law and international resolutions. Such a framework, the UAE stated, would fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign state while contributing to lasting peace, security, and prosperity across the region.
