PIA CEO Seeks Diplomatic Support for UK Flights as EU Operations Resume

DPM - Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar with PIA Chief Executive Officer, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Amir Hayat

Islamabad – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chief Executive Officer, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Amir Hayat, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar today to discuss the national carrier’s revival and expansion plans.

During the meeting, CEO Hayat acknowledged the critical groundwork laid during the previous PDM government’s tenure (2022–2023), which enabled PIA and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. This compliance paved the way for the resumption of PIA flights to the European Union (EU) in November 2024.

Expressing gratitude for the Foreign Ministry’s sustained support, Hayat sought further diplomatic assistance to expedite the lifting of the UK ban on PIA flights. The UK, a key market for Pakistani travelers, has maintained restrictions since 2020 following safety concerns.

In response, Deputy Prime Minister Dar assured that he and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are actively engaging with British authorities to secure the earliest possible resumption of flights. “We are fully committed to restoring PIA’s operations in the UK and are working closely with all stakeholders to resolve remaining issues,” he stated.
