- Russian Foreign Minister Questions Washington’s Response to European Leaders’ Remarks Following US-Russia Talks
MOSCOW: The White House has yet to publicly respond to European leaders’ remarks concerning the outcome of the Anchorage summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with RBC television.
Lavrov said European leaders, together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, moved quickly to engage US President Donald Trump following the Anchorage meeting.
“Immediately after Anchorage, the Europeans, alongside with Vladimir Zelensky, rushed to President Donald Trump,” Lavrov said, referring to what he described as Europe’s efforts to influence the US position following the summit.
He specifically cited French President Emmanuel Macron, who, according to Lavrov, declared that European efforts had effectively “buried” the Anchorage summit and that Trump was now aligned with them.
Lavrov questioned how Washington viewed such statements, noting that the White House had not issued any public response.
“I have no idea how the White House views this, but no response to these words has so far been heard from them,” he said.
The comments highlight continuing differences between Moscow and European governments over the diplomatic significance and aftermath of the Anchorage talks.
