- Chilean Star Records Ninth LIV Golf Victory in Three Years; Rahm Clinches Points Title Despite 41st-Place Finish
BEDMINSTER, New Jersey: Joaquin Niemann produced another commanding performance on Sunday, closing with a 2-under 69 to win LIV Golf New York by three shots and secure his ninth career victory over the past three years.
Niemann finished at 16-under 268 at Trump International Golf Club, completing a wire-to-wire triumph that further underlined his growing dominance on the LIV Golf circuit.
Late Surge Seals Niemann’s Victory
The Chilean faced a strong challenge from Harold Varner III, who briefly drew level before Niemann pulled away during the closing stretch.
Niemann regained control with a birdie on the 13th hole before producing a crucial eagle on the par-5 15th, ultimately finishing three strokes clear of Varner, who carded a 70 to claim second place.
“I feel like the more they push me, the better golfer I’m going to become from every experience,” Niemann said. “To be able to hit the shots that I did and make the putts that I did coming down the stretch, I put credit on myself.”
The victory follows Niemann’s earlier triumph in South Korea this season and adds another significant milestone to his rapid rise in professional golf.
Rahm Clinches Third Consecutive LIV Points Title
Although Jon Rahm struggled to find his best form and finished with a 76 to tie for 41st, the result was still sufficient for him to secure the LIV Golf season points title for the third consecutive year since joining the league.
Rahm’s closest challenger, Bryson DeChambeau, carded a 71 to finish tied for 38th, 23 shots behind Niemann. With only one tournament remaining, DeChambeau can no longer overtake Rahm in the season standings.
“It’s been a great year,” Rahm said. “Again, a little sour taste in my mouth because of how badly I played this week. But it’s been something to be proud of.”
LIV Golf Signals New Investment Direction
The tournament also came as LIV Golf announced a potentially significant development regarding its financial future.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil said the league had signed a term sheet with a lead investor, paving the way for the circuit to move forward without funding from Saudi Arabia. O’Neil did not disclose the identity of the investor or the value of the proposed investment.
LIV Golf will return to action in Indiana in two weeks, with the season heading toward its final event.
