Japan’s Princess Kako, a niece of Emperor Naruhito, left Tokyo for Greece on Saturday for a trip to mark 125 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the countries.
It will be the third official overseas visit of the younger daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, following her trips to Austria and Hungary in 2019 and Peru in November last year.
Her trip through June 1 coincides with the commemoration of the “Year of Culture and Tourism Between Japan and Greece.”
In the Greek capital Athens, the princess will pay a courtesy call to President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and attend a commemorative event for the 125th anniversary, according to the Imperial Household Agency.
The princess’s itinerary also includes visiting the Parthenon, situated in the World Heritage Site of the Acropolis of Athens. She is also scheduled to tour a facility for the hearing-impaired and an orphanage.
