TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reported that its naval forces intercepted and halted three oil tankers in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, Iranian media reported on Wednesday.
IRGC Cites Violations by Tankers
According to the Guards’ naval forces, the three oil tankers allegedly ignored repeated warnings and continued navigating along what Iranian authorities described as an “unsafe and illegal route.”
The IRGC Navy said the vessels were subsequently targeted and brought to a halt, according to a report by Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
Incident Raises Concerns Over Strait of Hormuz
The reported incident comes amid a temporary lull in direct hostilities between Tehran and Washington, adding to concerns over maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy transit routes.
The latest development could further heighten tensions surrounding commercial shipping in the region, particularly given the strategic importance of the waterway to global oil supplies.
