TEHRAN: Iran on Monday said it had urged an end to ongoing regional hostilities and called for the release of its frozen overseas assets in response to the latest proposal from the United States.

Speaking during a weekly press briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran was seeking recognition of what it described as its legitimate national rights.

“We did not demand any concessions. The only thing we demanded was Iran’s legitimate rights,” Baqaei stated.

According to the spokesman, Iran’s key demands include “an end to the war in the region,” the lifting of what he described as a US naval blockade, and the release of Iranian financial assets frozen abroad.

He added that the funds belonged to the Iranian people and had remained “unjustly trapped in foreign banks” for years.

The remarks come amid continuing diplomatic efforts and heightened tensions across the Middle East, as regional and international actors seek pathways toward de-escalation and renewed negotiations.
