Islamabad – The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the education sector to further strengthen their bilateral relations.
An important discussion to this end took place during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Oumer H. Oba, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and H.E. Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, in Islamabad on Thursday.
The two sides discussed key areas of cooperation, including institutional linkages, higher education, technical and vocational education, student exchanges, and research and development.
Ambassador Dr. Oumer underscored the importance of educational cooperation, noting the growing ties between the two countries across various sectors. He said educational cooperation is vital to bringing the two nations closer and advance shared progress in the Global South.
Highlighting Ethiopia’s young population, the Ambassador said the country is giving immense priority to skills development, including in modern fields such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and robotics. He cited the success of the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders initiative, led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, in upskilling the country’s youth and expanding its skilled workforce.
Federal Minister Siddiqui appreciated Ethiopia’s economic development and reiterated the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to strengthen relations with Africa, including Ethiopia. He assured the Ambassador of his full support for cooperation in higher education, technical and vocational education, and technology and innovation.
