- Talks Focus on Public Rights, Anti-Corruption Measures and Compensation for War-Related Damages
TEHRAN: Iran’s judiciary announced on Saturday that its chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, had held a meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, marking another rare reported engagement by the country’s new leader, who has yet to appear publicly since assuming the position.
According to the judiciary’s Mizan Online news website, the meeting covered several domestic and legal issues, including the protection of public rights, efforts to combat corruption and measures to address obstacles to accountability.
The two officials also discussed pursuing legal claims and compensation for material and moral damages that Iran attributes to actions by the United States and Israel during the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Supreme Leader Has Yet to Appear in Public
Mojtaba Khamenei was selected in March to succeed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in US-Israeli strikes in central Tehran at the beginning of the regional war. Mojtaba Khamenei was also reported to have been injured in the same attack.
Since his appointment, the younger Khamenei has communicated through written statements, some published in handwriting attributed to him. No video message or public appearance has been released, and Iranian authorities have not disclosed the time or location of his latest reported meeting with the judiciary chief.
The limited public visibility of the new supreme leader has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding his leadership and his engagement with senior Iranian officials.
Senior Officials Continue Consultations with New Leader
The meeting with Mohseni Ejei follows other reported consultations between Mojtaba Khamenei and senior figures in Iran’s political and military establishment.
Earlier this week, Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, reportedly met with the supreme leader to discuss the latest developments in the war.
President Masoud Pezeshkian was also reported to have met Mojtaba Khamenei in May, in what was among the first publicly reported meetings involving the new leader after his appointment.
Ali Abdollahi, who previously headed the Khatam Al-Anbiya command centre overseeing Iran’s military operations, also reportedly met with him. Abdollahi was subsequently appointed chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces while retaining his previous position.
Legal Accountability and Compensation Remain Key Issues
According to the judiciary’s account, the latest meeting placed particular emphasis on protecting citizens’ rights, addressing corruption and pursuing compensation for damages attributed by Tehran to the United States and Israel.
The discussions come amid continuing conflict and broader challenges facing Iran’s political leadership, judicial institutions and national security establishment.
Although details of the meeting remain limited, the announcement provides another indication of ongoing consultations between Mojtaba Khamenei and senior Iranian officials as the country navigates a period of heightened regional tension.
