- Moroccan monarch reaffirms national independence, calls for fair and balanced international cooperation, and unveils a strategic vision focused on shared prosperity, regional stability and national security
Islamabad: His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco has delivered a firm message on national sovereignty and international relations, declaring that Morocco’s partnerships are a sovereign choice and a voluntary commitment that will never be subjected to pressure, threats or blackmail.
Addressing Parliament on Friday at the opening of the first session of the new legislative year in Rabat, the Moroccan monarch reaffirmed his country’s commitment to responsible international cooperation while underscoring the importance of mutual respect, fairness and respect for national sovereignty in relations with international partners.
King Mohammed VI said Morocco had strengthened its position on the international stage as a reliable and responsible partner that honours its commitments and expects the same level of respect and responsibility from others.
His remarks underscored Morocco’s determination to pursue an independent foreign policy based on national interests, constructive engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships.
A Call for Fairer and More Effective International Cooperation
Addressing the challenges surrounding migration, the King acknowledged that Morocco’s balanced approach had delivered tangible results through cooperation with its international partners. However, he cautioned that recurring crises had exposed the limitations of the existing cooperation framework, which he described as outdated.
The monarch highlighted progress in cooperation with neighbouring Spain, particularly in combating irregular migration. At the same time, he pointed to legal and judicial obstacles affecting the repatriation of minors and individuals whose asylum claims are considered unfounded, arguing that such gaps can create opportunities for criminal networks to exploit vulnerable people and weaknesses in migration management.
His message called for a more practical, balanced and sustainable approach—one that addresses shared challenges while respecting the responsibilities and interests of all parties.
Morocco to Propose a New Strategic Vision
King Mohammed VI announced that Morocco would present its international partners with a document setting out a clear and practical strategic vision for a renewed model of cooperation.
The proposed approach aims to advance shared development, strengthen economic competitiveness and promote regional stability. It reflects Morocco’s ambition to build partnerships that go beyond short-term crisis management and deliver lasting benefits for participating countries.
Under the King’s leadership, Morocco continues to pursue international engagement founded on sovereignty, institutional responsibility and the principle that effective partnerships require mutual trust and reciprocal commitments.
National Security and Development Remain Priorities
Turning to domestic priorities, the King called for continued reforms and the implementation of major strategies to strengthen Morocco’s water, energy and food security.
He emphasised the importance of enhancing national capabilities and reinforcing strategic reserves to help the country withstand external shocks and emerging economic and environmental challenges.
These priorities reflect a broader focus on resilience, sustainable development and the protection of Morocco’s long-term national interests.
A Sovereign Morocco on the International Stage
King Mohammed VI’s address reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to international cooperation without compromising its independence or national dignity. His emphasis on reciprocal respect, practical solutions and shared development presented a vision of partnerships built on equality rather than pressure.
The message from Rabat was clear: Morocco remains open to dialogue, cooperation and mutually beneficial international relations, but the terms of its partnerships must respect its sovereignty and legitimate national interests.
As Morocco pursues its domestic development agenda and strengthens its international relationships, the King’s remarks place national independence, strategic resilience and balanced diplomacy at the heart of the country’s future direction.
