Constanța–Karachi Maritime Corridor Set to Strengthen Romania–Pakistan Trade Connectivity

  • Romanian port seeks to transform new partnership with Karachi Port into expanded trade, logistics and investment opportunities between Pakistan and the European Union

ISLAMABAD – CONSTANTA: A new chapter in Romania–Pakistan maritime and commercial cooperation is taking shape as a Pakistani business delegation visits the Port of Constanța, Romania’s principal maritime gateway to the Black Sea and a strategic link between European and international markets.

Welcoming the delegation, the Port of Constanța leadership highlighted the significant potential for developing a direct trade corridor between Karachi and Constanța, connecting Pakistan and wider South Asia with the European Union and the Black Sea region.

The visit builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 31 March 2026 between the Port of Constanța and Karachi Port Trust (KPT), establishing a framework for deeper cooperation between the two major maritime gateways.

Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan

Facilitated by the Embassy of Romania in Islamabad and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, the latest engagement is focused on translating institutional cooperation into practical commercial opportunities for exporters, importers, shipping companies, freight forwarders and logistics providers.

The proposed Constanța–Karachi trade route could contribute to greater supply-chain diversification while improving connectivity between South Asian producers and European markets. It also offers opportunities to expand the movement of goods through the Black Sea and strengthen commercial links between the two regions.

The Romanian side welcomed the role of the Pakistan–Romania Business Council, along with partners at both ports, in advancing closer private-sector engagement and identifying new areas of trade and logistics cooperation.

The initiative reflects growing efforts to move beyond formal agreements and develop concrete business-to-business partnerships, with the potential to increase bilateral trade, facilitate market access and create new opportunities for the logistics and maritime sectors.

The Port of Constanța and Karachi Port Trust partnership therefore represents an important platform for strengthening Romania–Pakistan economic relations, while positioning both ports as potential gateways for expanded trade between Pakistan, the European Union and the wider Black Sea region.
