ISLAMABAD: Morocco has received international recognition for its growing leadership in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and public-sector innovation, with Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni honoured with the African Excellence Award for “Artificial Intelligence, Digital Sovereignty and Public Innovation” in Paris.
The distinction was presented as part of the 2026 Africa Next Awards, recognising Seghrouchni’s professional career and her contribution to advancing Morocco’s ambitious digital transformation agenda, modernising public administration and strengthening the country’s capacity in artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
The award highlights Morocco’s growing reputation as a dynamic hub for technological innovation and digital development in Africa, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to harnessing emerging technologies to support sustainable economic growth and improve public services.
Building a Modern and Citizen-Centred Administration
Under Morocco’s digital transformation strategy, administrative reform has been placed at the heart of efforts to build a more efficient, transparent and accessible public administration.
The Kingdom’s approach goes beyond simply transferring traditional government services to digital platforms. It seeks to redesign administrative processes, simplify procedures, reduce bureaucracy and strengthen governance, while making greater use of data and advanced technologies.
Morocco is also working to improve interoperability between public institutions and digital systems, creating a more integrated administrative environment capable of responding effectively to the evolving needs of citizens, businesses and the wider economy.
As part of this vision, the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform is preparing a 2026–2030 roadmap for administrative transformation, aimed at establishing a modern, agile and efficient public administration equipped to respond to rapid social, economic and technological changes.
“AI Made in Morocco” Driving Innovation
Artificial intelligence represents another major pillar of Morocco’s digital development strategy.
The country’s “AI Made in Morocco” ambition, together with the development of JAZARI Institutes, is designed to create a strong national ecosystem connecting government institutions, universities, researchers, businesses and innovative startups.
The initiative seeks to encourage the development of AI applications adapted to Morocco’s economic and social priorities while strengthening national expertise and technological capabilities.
Morocco is also investing heavily in the development of digital skills, with a target of training 100,000 digital professionals annually by 2030.
At the same time, efforts are underway to expand digital infrastructure and computing capacity, strengthen cloud capabilities and promote data literacy, creating the foundations for wider adoption of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Morocco Strengthens Digital Cooperation Across Africa
Morocco’s digital ambitions extend beyond its national borders. The Kingdom is increasingly positioning itself as a partner in advancing digital transformation and technological capacity across Africa and the Arab world.
A key initiative in this regard is the D4SD Morocco Hub, launched in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which aims to contribute to digital transformation, innovation and capacity-building efforts in African and Arab countries.
Through such initiatives, Morocco is seeking to share its experience and expertise while fostering partnerships that can help bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive technological development across the continent.
A Rising African Digital Leader
The recognition in Paris adds to Morocco’s growing international profile as a country investing in artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty, innovation and modern public administration.
The award also underscores the Kingdom’s broader ambition to place technology at the service of citizens, strengthen economic competitiveness and deepen digital cooperation across Africa.
With sustained investment in talent, infrastructure, innovation and international partnerships, Morocco is emerging as an important African centre for digital transformation and a strong advocate of technology-driven development across the continent.
