  • Iran says US warships were forced to withdraw from combat zone following missile attack

ISLAMABAD: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Sunday that its Aerospace Force had launched a ballistic missile attack against a US aircraft carrier and a US Navy destroyer, accusing the vessels of harassing Iranian ships and participating in a maritime blockade.

According to a statement cited by Iran’s official IRNA news agency, the IRGC’s Aerospace Force conducted the attack using several ballistic missiles against the two US Navy vessels.

The IRGC alleged that the US warships had been involved in operations targeting or restricting Iranian maritime activity.

“Several ballistic missiles” were used in the operation, according to the statement, which claimed that the targeted US vessels sustained damage and were subsequently forced to withdraw from the combat area.

The claims could not be independently verified.

The reported attack comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, particularly over maritime operations and military activity in the region.
