  • Engagement Highlights Trade, Investment, Logistics and Private-Sector Cooperation Ahead of Rwanda–Pakistan Business Forum

ISLAMABAD – Governor of Sindh H.E. Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi visited the Rwanda High Commission in Islamabad on Thursday, where he was received by H.E. Fatou Harerimana, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Pakistan.

The visit, undertaken on a reciprocal basis following High Commissioner Harerimana’s visit to the Governor House in Karachi in April 2026, reflects the growing political and diplomatic engagement between Rwanda and Pakistan and underscores the increasing importance of provincial-level cooperation in advancing bilateral relations.

Focus on Trade, Investment and Business Cooperation

During the meeting, Governor Hashmi and High Commissioner Harerimana held a tête-à-tête discussion on avenues for further strengthening Rwanda–Pakistan relations, with particular emphasis on trade, investment, business partnerships and diplomatic engagement.

The two sides discussed the potential role of the Government of Sindh in facilitating stronger commercial ties between Sindh and Rwanda, while emphasizing the importance of expanding private-sector linkages.

Both sides expressed support for creating greater opportunities for businesses and investors from the two countries to explore new markets, establish commercial partnerships and identify mutually beneficial investment opportunities.

Karachi’s Strategic Role in Rwanda–Pakistan Trade

The discussions also highlighted the strategic importance of Karachi as Pakistan’s principal commercial and maritime gateway and its potential role in expanding Rwanda–Pakistan trade.

Karachi’s port infrastructure provides an important route for Pakistani exports to Rwanda, including rice, pharmaceutical products, and medical and surgical equipment. At the same time, Karachi serves as a key maritime entry point for Rwandan tea destined for the Pakistani market.

Enhanced cooperation between the Government of Sindh and Rwanda could therefore contribute to improved trade facilitation, logistics, shipping connectivity and private-sector engagement, helping strengthen the efficiency and competitiveness of bilateral commercial exchanges.

Turning Diplomatic Goodwill into Economic Opportunities

The Governor’s commitment to strengthening trade and commercial relations provides a positive foundation for closer cooperation between the Government of Sindh, the Rwanda High Commission and business communities in both countries.

The engagement carries significance beyond diplomatic interaction, offering an opportunity to translate political goodwill into practical economic cooperation in areas including trade, investment, logistics, pharmaceuticals, medical and surgical equipment, rice, tea and other sectors of mutual interest.

Rwanda–Pakistan Business Forum to Advance Commercial Ties

The meeting comes at an important time as preparations continue for the Rwanda–Pakistan Business Forum, scheduled to take place in Kigali in September 2026.

The Forum is expected to bring together business leaders, investors and institutional stakeholders from Rwanda and Pakistan to identify investment opportunities, develop commercial partnerships and promote the expansion of bilateral trade.

Governor Hashmi’s visit to the Rwanda High Commission marks a positive step toward deepening Rwanda–Sindh economic and commercial relations and contributes to the broader objective of strengthening the longstanding friendship and expanding practical cooperation between Rwanda and Pakistan.
