- Historic Global Event to Celebrate Turkmenistan’s Legendary Horse Breed
ISLAMABAD: The First World Championship for Akhal-Teke Horses will be held from September 4 to 6, 2026, at the Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, marking a historic milestone in the international recognition and promotion of one of the world’s oldest and most distinguished horse breeds.
The championship will bring together breeders, horse owners, equestrian experts, judges, and enthusiasts from across the globe, providing a prestigious platform for international cooperation and the preservation of the renowned Akhal-Teke horse.
Symbol of Turkmenistan’s National Heritage
The Akhal-Teke horse, regarded as the national treasure and enduring symbol of the Turkmen people, has been celebrated for centuries for its exceptional beauty, elegance, intelligence, endurance, and loyalty.

Through sustained national efforts to preserve and promote the breed, Turkmenistan has elevated the Akhal-Teke horse to global prominence, where it is widely recognized as one of the world’s finest and most valuable horse breeds.

A major highlight of the three-day championship will be performances by Turkmenistan’s internationally acclaimed “Galkynyş” National Equestrian Games Group alongside artists from the State Circus of Turkmenistan.
A high-level governmental and cultural delegation from Turkmenistan will also participate in the event, reflecting the country’s commitment to promoting its rich equestrian traditions on the international stage.
