BERLIN: At least one person was killed and 15 others injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd in the Tiergarten area of central Berlin, German media reported, citing police.

Police said the vehicle entered the park and struck several people before the driver fled the scene. Authorities have launched an intensive search for the suspect, with a police helicopter deployed as part of the operation.

The incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m. local time (2000 GMT). According to reports, the suspect was driving a small white van when the vehicle crashed while attempting to flee.

The driver reportedly abandoned the damaged vehicle and continued escaping on foot. Images circulating online showed a white minibus that had crashed into a tree and sustained visible damage consistent with a collision.

German media reports differed slightly on the number of injured, with Focus Online reporting 14 victims, while N-tv, citing police, reported 15 injured.

Police have not yet provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the motive behind the crash.
