- Royal Initiative Reflects Morocco’s Humanitarian Values and Deep Ties with Senegal
RABAT – In a gesture reflecting the enduring fraternal relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, His Majesty King Mohammed VI has graciously granted a Royal Pardon to Senegalese supporters convicted in Morocco for offences committed during the African Cup of Nations competitions hosted by the Kingdom.
The Royal decision, announced on the occasion of the blessed Eid Al Adha, was motivated by humanitarian considerations and embodies the noble values that characterize the Kingdom of Morocco under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King.
Through this magnanimous act, His Majesty King Mohammed VI once again reaffirmed the depth of the historic bonds of friendship, brotherhood, and cooperation uniting Morocco and Senegal. The Royal Pardon further highlights Morocco’s enduring commitment to the principles of clemency, generosity, tolerance, and human solidarity — values deeply rooted in the Kingdom’s national identity and civilization.
On this blessed religious occasion, His Majesty the King also conveyed his sincere wishes and warm congratulations to his brother, His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as to the Senegalese authorities and the brotherly people of Senegal.
Welcoming the Royal gesture, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed his profound gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, praising the decision as a humanitarian and compassionate initiative that further strengthens the exceptional relations between the two nations.
“Our compatriots detained in Morocco following the incidents that occurred on the sidelines of the Africa Cup of Nations are now free and will soon reunite with their families, thanks to the Royal Grace graciously granted by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Eid Al Adha,” the Senegalese President stated.
He added: “I extend my sincerest thanks to His Majesty for this noble decision, marked by clemency and humanity. Senegal and Morocco share a longstanding fraternity, which this gesture once again honors. Eid Mubarak to His Majesty the King and to the Moroccan people.”
