Beijing – Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump have commenced high-level talks in Beijing, according to China’s state television broadcaster.
The meeting marks a significant step in efforts by the world’s two largest economies to address key bilateral and international issues amid ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges.
At the start of the discussions, the two leaders reviewed a wide range of topics, including trade relations, economic cooperation, regional security, and global strategic concerns. President Trump’s visit to China, which continues until May 15, is aimed at narrowing differences between Washington and Beijing on trade and investment matters, while also strengthening dialogue on broader international issues.
The talks are expected to focus on mechanisms to enhance economic cooperation and reduce tensions surrounding tariffs, market access, and supply chain stability. Both sides are also anticipated to exchange views on major international developments, including the ongoing tensions involving the United States and Iran.
In addition, the leaders are expected to discuss the sensitive issue of Taiwan, which remains one of the most critical and complex matters in China-U.S. relations. Observers view the meeting as an important opportunity for both countries to improve communication channels and seek common ground on issues affecting regional and global stability.
