Islamabad – Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Japan, Abdul Hameed Bhutta, paid a farewell call on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar today, ahead of his departure for Tokyo to assume his diplomatic assignment.

During the meeting, DPM Dar congratulated Ambassador-designate Bhutta on his new role and expressed confidence in his ability to further strengthen Pakistan-Japan relations. He underscored the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment, information technology, and industrial collaboration, given Japan’s status as a leading global economy and a significant development partner for Pakistan.
Focus on Trade and Investment
The Foreign Minister highlighted the potential for increased Japanese investment in Pakistan, particularly in infrastructure, automotive, and technology sectors. He urged the incoming envoy to actively engage with Japanese businesses and policymakers to explore new avenues for economic partnership.
Welfare of Pakistani Diaspora a Priority
DPM Dar also directed Ambassador Bhutta to prioritize the welfare of the Pakistani community in Japan, which includes a substantial number of professionals, students, and skilled workers. He emphasized improving consular services, addressing community concerns, and facilitating legal and social support for overseas Pakistanis.
Strengthening Diplomatic and Cultural Ties
The discussion also touched upon deepening cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. Japan has been a key partner in Pakistan’s development through initiatives such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has funded multiple infrastructure and social sector projects in the country.

Background
Pakistan and Japan have maintained cordial diplomatic relations since 1952, with cooperation spanning trade, education, and disaster relief. Japan remains one of Pakistan’s major export destinations, particularly for textiles and agricultural products.
The meeting concluded with mutual optimism about the future of Pakistan-Japan relations under Ambassador Bhutta’s leadership.
