- International Energy Agency Report Highlights UAE’s Global Vision for Sustainable Mobility and Green Innovation
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has further strengthened its position as the Middle East’s leading hub for sustainable mobility after securing first place in regional electric vehicle (EV) sales for the second consecutive year, according to the International Energy Agency Global EV Outlook 2026 report.
The report revealed that the UAE accounted for nearly 50 percent of all electric vehicle sales across the region, underscoring the country’s rapid transition toward clean transportation and reinforcing its status as a global leader in future technologies, green innovation, and sustainable development.
Visionary Leadership Driving Green Transformation
The achievement reflects the success of the UAE’s forward-looking national strategies and the visionary leadership’s commitment to building a diversified, knowledge-based, and environmentally sustainable economy.
The milestone is closely linked to the implementation of the National Electric Vehicles Policy launched by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in 2023, which aims to accelerate EV adoption, expand nationwide charging infrastructure, and attract investments in advanced mobility solutions.
The policy forms part of the UAE’s broader ambition to establish a smart and sustainable transportation ecosystem aligned with national climate and energy goals.
UAE Positioned as Global Hub for Sustainable Mobility
Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, said the UAE’s leading regional position reflects the country’s ambitious long-term vision to become a global center for sustainable mobility and innovation in energy and transport sectors.
“The report confirms the UAE’s success in creating an attractive and competitive environment for electric vehicle manufacturers and expanding their presence in the local market through advanced legislation, investor-friendly policies, and world-class infrastructure,” Al Olama said.
He noted that the country’s achievements align with major national initiatives, including the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, the Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, and the transformational Global EV Market project.
Accelerating Transition Toward a Green Economy
Al Olama emphasized that the UAE continues to make significant progress in its transition toward a green economy through an integrated national vision focused on innovation, clean technologies, and energy efficiency.
“This achievement reflects the success of national policies and strategies that have strengthened the UAE’s readiness to adapt to global transformations in the electric vehicle sector,” he stated.
He added that the UAE’s advanced regulatory framework and investment-friendly environment continue to attract leading global EV manufacturers and technology companies.
Expanding Charging Infrastructure Across the UAE
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in partnership with public and private sector stakeholders, is continuing efforts to develop a comprehensive ecosystem supporting the rapid growth of electric mobility across the country.
This includes accelerating the expansion of EV charging infrastructure, encouraging private investment, and supporting innovation in green transport technologies.
Al Olama highlighted that the launch of UAEV represents a strategic milestone in establishing an advanced nationwide charging network capable of supporting wider EV adoption and enhancing the country’s future infrastructure readiness.
UAE Emerging as Regional Benchmark for Clean Mobility
The latest international recognition reinforces the UAE’s growing reputation as a regional and global benchmark in sustainable mobility, clean energy transformation, and smart infrastructure development.
Through ambitious policies, advanced infrastructure, and strategic investments, the UAE continues to position itself at the forefront of the global transition toward low-carbon transportation and sustainable urban development.
