NEW YORK: US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States is preparing to launch powerful strikes against Iran following an attack on US military positions in Jordan, while indicating that Washington remains willing to pursue negotiations with Tehran.
“We’ll be hitting them hard. They’re going to get a beating,” Trump said, according to journalist Trey Yingst in remarks broadcast by Fox News.
Despite the warning of military retaliation, Trump said the United States would allow diplomatic efforts to continue.
“We’re going to let them keep talking,” he said, signaling that Washington has not closed the door to further negotiations even as tensions between the two countries escalate.
Iran Claims Missile Attack on US Base in Jordan
Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched a ballistic-missile attack against a US air base in Jordan, as well as the headquarters of the US Central Command in the country.
The Iranian claim came amid rapidly escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, raising concerns over the potential for further military confrontation in the region.
