Rainbow Brightens Skies Over Minsk, Vitebsk, and Grodno After Summer Rain
MINSK — A vibrant rainbow arched across the skies of Minsk, Vitebsk, and Grodno on Tuesday evening, following a brief but refreshing summer rain. The sudden downpour interrupted a day of warm sunshine, leaving behind a dramatic sunset backdrop that made the rainbow’s colors shine even brighter.
As city residents hurried for cover, many paused to capture the rare spectacle on their phones. Social media quickly filled with photos of the rainbow stretching over urban landmarks, with some lucky onlookers even spotting a faint double rainbow.
According to Belarusian folk beliefs, an evening rainbow is said to herald fair weather ahead. Meteorologists confirm that clearer skies are expected in the coming days, though brief summer showers may return later in the week.
For many, the unexpected rainbow was a welcome reminder of nature’s beauty amid the hustle of city life. “It felt magical—like the sky was celebrating after the rain,” said one Minsk resident.
Whether a sign of good fortune or simply a fleeting summer wonder, the rainbow left an unforgettable impression on those who witnessed it.

A rare double rainbow emerged over Grodno. There is a simple scientific explanation for this: it occurs when light is reflected twice inside raindrops.
