- Overnight assault near Ukrainian capital underscores ongoing violence as diplomatic efforts to end the prolonged conflict face setbacks.
KYIV: Russian drone and missile strikes targeting areas near Ukraine’s capital killed at least four people and wounded 10 others, Ukrainian police said on Saturday.
Authorities reported that Russian forces continued to carry out attacks on the Kyiv region overnight. “Russian forces continue to launch strikes on the Kyiv region,” Ukraine’s police said in a statement posted on Telegram.
“So far, four people are known to have been killed and 10 wounded,” the statement added, noting that emergency services were working at the affected sites.
Earlier, the head of the Kyiv region’s military administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, said a “massive attack” involving drones and missiles struck areas surrounding the capital during the night, causing casualties and damage.
The latest assault comes as diplomatic efforts led by the United States to halt the conflict have stalled amid rising geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing confrontation involving Israel and Iran.
The war began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, triggering the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II. The war has displaced millions of civilians and resulted in hundreds of thousands of military and civilian casualties on both sides.
