The Embassy on the Progress of the Special Military Operation and the Situation around the Conflict in Ukraine.

On the frontline

Having thwarted all attempts of the Ukrainian armed forces to launch a so-called “offensive” in the summer and autumn of 2023, the Russian army is conducting successful military operations along the entire front line amid harsh winter conditions.

In December, the town of Maryinka, a suburb of Donetsk, which had been turned into a fortress by the Ukrainian forces, was liberated. It allowed to move the front line much further away from Donetsk.

Besides, the Russian Army has substantially improved its positions:

·        northwest of Artemovsk (Donetsk People’s Republic of Russia), liberating Artemovskoye;

·        In the direction of Seversk (Donetsk People’s Republic of Russia), liberating Veseloye;

·        In the direction of Kupyansk (Kharkov Oblast), liberating Krakhmalnoe.

Ukraine’s targeting of civilian population and its own POWs

Realizing the failure of its offensive actions and trying to divert public attention from its losses, on December 30, 2023, the Kiev regime launched a cowardly artillery strike using cluster munitions and Czech-made Vampire MLRS projectiles on the Russian border city of Belgorod. The city center, where New Year’s festivities were being held, was deliberately attacked. 25 civilians were killed, including five children, and more than 100 people were injured. On New Year’s Eve, the Kiev regime once again showed its terrorist nature – the shelling of Donetsk killed four and wounded 13 people.

On January 21, 2024, Ukrainian formations on purpose targeted civilians in a market and shops in the busiest locality in Donetsk, killing 27 and injuring 25 people. It was established that the West-supplied weapons had been used during the attack. This is another proof of the West’s direct involvement in the conflict.

In retaliation, in January 2024 Russian armed forces carried out a series of successful strikes with high-precision weapons and UAVs on Ukrainian decision-making centers, military industrial complex, military airfield infrastructure, arsenals and fuel bases. The deployment sites of Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries, including Frenchmen, were targeted as well.

On January 24, the Kiev regime committed another terrorist act by downing a Russian IL-76 military transport plane in the Belgorod Region killing six crew members and three Russian officers along with 65 Ukrainian POWs who were being transported to a prisoners’ exchange site. The Ukraine’s General Staff actually confirmed its direct involvement in this atrocity.

Western “peace initiatives”

Meanwhile, fully sponsoring the Kiev regime and sharing the responsibility for all its crimes, the West continued to support the hypocritical Copenhagen format of the so-called “peace dialogue” in Davos. This process, promoted solely by the West without any real willingness to engage Russia, is based on Zelensky’s peace formula which is no more than a set of propaganda sloganeering by the Kiev regime.

Absurd and unrealistic “peace formula” contains demands for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Russian regions of Crimea, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye, which are integral parts of Russia. In fact, the Copenhagen format is based on the West’s intention to make ultimatums to Russia, rather than on a sincere desire for peace. This is confirmed by the statement made on December 30 by Mr. Podolyak, Advisor to the Head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, who said that “there will be no negotiations…there will be ultimatums to the Russian Federation”.

Russia’s stance unchangedDespite sanctions and threats from the so-called “civilized” world, Russia resolutely defends and will continue to defend its national interests. In its efforts on the battlefields of the Special Military Operation, Russia is fighting not only for itself, but also for a world free from Western hegemony.
