
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to establish stronger parliamentary relations aimed at expanding cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, aviation, and cultural exchange.
The understanding was reached during a meeting in Islamabad between H.E. Dr. Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia, and H.E. Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and discussed new opportunities to enhance cooperation, reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Dr. Oumer highlighted the historic and friendly relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan, emphasizing their shared values, cultural connections, and mutual interests. He noted Ethiopia’s strategic importance as the headquarters of the African Union and a key gateway to the African continent, adding that Pakistan could benefit from closer engagement with Ethiopia to expand its economic and diplomatic presence in Africa.
The Senate Chairman appreciated Ethiopia’s remarkable economic progress, ongoing reforms, and development initiatives. He emphasized that cultural exchanges and religious tourism could play a vital role in deepening people-to-people connections and enhancing mutual understanding between the two nations.
Highlighting Pakistan’s strengths in agriculture, the Chairman stressed the importance of sharing knowledge, technology, and expertise to support sustainable development and prosperity across the Global South.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to establish parliamentary friendship groups and facilitate regular exchanges of parliamentary delegations to strengthen institutional cooperation and further advance diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Pakistan.
