Pakistan, UK Explore Enhanced Cooperation in Judicial Training and Legal Education

ISLAMABAD: The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan received Mr. Justice Martin Griffiths, Judge of the High Court of England and Wales (King’s Bench Division), at the Supreme Court of Pakistan during his visit to the country.

Justice Griffiths is a member of the International Committee of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, United Kingdom, and chairs the Wales Training Committee of the Judicial College.

The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Supreme Court Judges Mr. Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Mr. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, along with the Director General and Director of the Federal Judicial Academy, the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, and the Director of Legal Education, Pakistan Bar Council.

Focus on Judicial Training and Institutional Collaboration

The discussions centred on strengthening institutional cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, with particular emphasis on judicial training, professional development, legal education and capacity building.

The participants discussed the possibility of establishing structured cooperation between the Federal Judicial Academy of Pakistan and the Judicial College of England and Wales to promote judicial education and specialised training for judges.

They highlighted the importance of exchanging training methodologies, institutional experiences and best practices to enhance judicial competence and strengthen professional development within the judiciary.

Opportunities for Legal Profession Cooperation

The meeting also explored avenues for collaboration between the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and Pakistan’s legal profession, particularly in advocacy training, continuing legal education and professional capacity building.

In this regard, Justice Griffiths’ role as a member of the International Committee of the Inner Temple was noted as an important avenue for facilitating greater engagement between the two legal communities.

Commitment to Sustained Institutional Engagement

The Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan appreciated the opportunity to engage with representatives of the United Kingdom’s judicial and legal institutions and expressed the hope that the discussions would translate into practical, long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation.

The engagement underscored the shared commitment of Pakistan and the United Kingdom to advancing judicial education, strengthening professional standards and promoting excellence in the legal and judicial sectors.
