RABAT, MOROCCO: Morocco’s government has clarified the circumstances surrounding the appointment and subsequent removal of Madiha Khayr from her position as Minister Delegate in charge of Professional Training and Qualification, stating that the swift handling of the matter reflects its institutional responsibilities and commitment to completing the constitutional process for the formation of the government.

Samir Belfkih, Minister of Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing and City Policy and Government Spokesperson, said the government had been closely monitoring the matter, including public discussion surrounding personal judicial and medical information related to Khayr.

In an official statement, Belfkih explained that the government’s response followed a political and institutional assessment shared by members of the governing majority. He said the coalition had reaffirmed its collective commitment to ensuring the government’s success, directing public debate towards its policy agenda and addressing citizens’ expectations while safeguarding the public interest.

King Mohammed VI Approves Request for Ministerial Relief

Following the assessment, the Head of Government submitted a request to His Majesty King Mohammed VI to relieve Khayr of her ministerial responsibilities.

The request was made in accordance with the constitutional powers of the Head of Government, particularly paragraph four of Article 47 of Morocco’s Constitution. The King approved the request, according to the government spokesperson.

The development underscores the constitutional procedures governing ministerial appointments and the exercise of executive authority in Morocco.

Government Seeks to Complete Constitutional Formation Process

Belfkih stressed that the government’s prompt action was intended to establish the necessary conditions for completing the constitutional process, including securing parliamentary investiture.

He added that completing this process would enable the government to concentrate on implementing its programme, fulfilling its commitments and responding to the priorities and expectations of Moroccan citizens.

Public Interest and Government Priorities Remain Central

The government spokesperson reiterated that the governing majority remains committed to the effective functioning of the government and to keeping public attention focused on its programme and responsibilities.

The statement also highlighted the importance of addressing institutional matters through the appropriate constitutional framework while ensuring that the government can proceed with its agenda and commitments to the Moroccan people.

Morocco’s government has presented the decision as part of its institutional responsibilities and the broader process of completing the government’s formation, with parliamentary investiture and implementation of its programme identified as the next priorities.
