Iranian  Cinema after the Islamic Revolution: Identity, Evolution and Characteristics

In Iran,  September 12  is celebrated as Cinema Day  .  After   the  Islamic  Revolution, the Iranian     cinema  gained a new identity by taking advantage of religious  and revolutionary teachings and recalling Iranian cultural and social values. During this period  , Iranian     cinema  not only presented its  internal      issues and social problems in a new way, but also  established a unique artistic identity on the international stage. Today, the          Iranian cinema  is regarded as one of the most iconic cinemas of the day that has distinguished itself in terms of truthfulness, relevance, human values and depth of thought. Keep  it.  After   the  Islamic Revolution, Iran’s journey progressed through various political, social, cultural and economic conditions. War, reconstruction, social change, reforms, migration, family issues, women’s and youth    issues were the themes of Iranian films. Throughout this journey  , Iranian    filmmakers    have tried to find an artistic language that reflects the true values of Iranian  society  on the one hand, and on the other.It  should   be understandable   and effective at the global level.

1. Position of the Iranian Cinema on the Global Stage

  After the Islamic  Revolution, the Iranian cinema  established its identity on  the  world stage despite economic,  political and cultural difficulties and the constraints ofdiversity.   Iranian films have  participated   in a number of international film festivals and won important awards. Thissuccess   catapulted Iranian     cinema  into the  ranks of the leading art scenes of the day.   Iranian  filmmakers, despite limited resources,     presented the  simple and real problems of  human   life in such a way  that their films proved to be understandable and effective for audiences from different cultures. This was   one of the main reasons for  the global  popularity of the Iranian cinema  .

2. Dynamic and Contemporary Synchronization

The Iranian  cinema  is a dynamic and in line with the demands of its times.   The      political and social changes taking place in  Iran continue to affect the themes, characters, and atmosphere of our films. From the era of war and reconstruction to reforms, social changes,  and      lifestyle changes  ,  Iranian filmmakers incorporated the changing conditions of their society  into their film stories. In this way, the Iranian          cinema  has become not  only a source of entertainment, but also an important cultural resource reflecting the changes, problems and intellectual trends of society.

3.  Highlights   of   Iranian Art

  Iranian  art has  gained a unique place in the world due to some of its distinctivecharacteristics.   The use of foreign actors, filming in real places,  stories that are  close to simple and everyday life, portraying  children as the main characters and ending in a way that gives the viewer an opportunity to contemplate.     The Iranian symbols are considered to be the most   important ones.   Iranian  filmmakers often focus on the   small issues and experiences of ordinary human life rather than  big and complex  events  . This simplicity  sometimes makes the film more profound and impactful.

4. The  Role of Women  in Iranian Politics After the Revolution

  After the Islamic  Revolution  , the  role and position of  women in Iranian society  as an important social member  was redefined in a new way. The  role         of   women  in Iranian cinema  has also changed, and instead of just portraying them as an element of sexual attraction, they have become more socially attractive.   The focus was on highlighting  the family, the intellectual and the human condition.     As    a result    of this change, women’s  participation in the U.S. economy also increased. In     addition to acting  , Khawat Yen  played prominent roles in scriptwriting, directing and other fields of filmmaking. Many  Iranian  women filmmakers  have achieved      significant achievements at the national and international levels and have   played an important role in  the development of Iranian cinema.

5.    Success in International FilmFestivals

    Since  the  1990s,    Iranian cinema  has further strengthened its presence at major filmfestivals throughout the day.   Through their  films  , Iranian filmmakers brought Iranian  society, culture, human issues and artistic experiences to a global audience. Filmmakers such as Jamal Shourja, DavoodM. Yerbakheri and AbraYam     Hatimi  played  an important role in highlighting the different dimensions of Iranian cinema  and introducing it to the world. In addition,    many filmmakers  have strengthened the identity of Iranian cinema in  international filmfestivals.

6. Sacred Defence Syndrome

  In    the aftermath     of the Iran-Iraq war, an  important film stream called “Sacred Defense” came  into existence in the Iranian cinema. In this genre of films,   different aspects of war will be subjected     to the  theme  of sacrifice, martyrdom, resistance, sacrifice, life of the fighters and the social and human impact of war.   After  the Islamic Revolution,   one of the main directions of Iranian cinema was filmmaking for children and youth.   With the       support  of cultural institutions, efforts were made to develop this sector   and films  were made for children and youth.   Iranian  children’  s      films have not only gained popularity in the country  but have also received special attention at  international filmfestivals.    Promoting human    , moral and social issues   through the simple and innocent day of the children became a  feature of Iranian children’s cinema.

9. Emergence of  a new generation of filmmakers after the revolution

After the     Islamic  Revolution, a new generation of directors, writers and artists emerged in Iranian cinema. Many filmmakers of this generation  tried to create their    own distinct artistic language  beyond the traditional style of filmmaking. Instead  of    relying on big stars, paranormal events and mere commercial events, he   gave importance to simple stories, truthfulness,  everyday life and the experiences of the common man. This trend    gave the        Iranian cinema an artistic identity that showed simplicity as well as intellectual and semantic depth.

10.   Promotion of   Cinema with Artistic and Social Cinema

   The identity  of  the   Iranian   cinema  was not limited to artistic and social films, but at the same time it developed a commercial and popularcinema. Comedyfilms, yellow dramas, family films and other   entertainment films   became an important part of the Iranian  film industry and market. In this way, a variety of  films   in Iranian cinema  were available for audiences with different tastes.   On            the one hand, films should be made that will be popular in the artistic and intellectual spheres, and on the other hand, public popularity and commercial success.   After the     Islamic Revolution, the Iranian cinema  has  emerged in the  form   of an artistic journey that deals with political  and cultural changes, government policies, Islamic values, social issues, etc.  The  independent artistic expression  of filmmakers   has been shaped by the quest for artistic expression.   The Iranian     cinema     is characterized by the fact that  on    the one hand, it has the sophisticated and artistic cinema that is universally recognized in film festivals. On the other hand, cinema  that   takes into account   commercial and public tastes   also has a strong place of its own. Thus, after the revolution, the   Iranian cinema  has established a unique and diverse identity by embracing various aspects of art, society, culture and popular choice.
